We received this authentic worn 1880's kepi from the great grandson of william piper who was a us cviil war veteran of the 32nd ohio volunteer infantry, company i & came home a hero. We have correspondence from william piper's great grandson who stated that william had fought in 11 major civil war battles & was known as the rebel killin' machine.

William piper later died & is buried in hte olive green cemetery in olive green, oh. The great grandson told us that william piper had worn thsi kepi after the war and it has been past down to thru his family. He told us he has had it for over 30 years. We will include a copy of the typed correspondence from the great grandson as a coa. The kepi is in expected condition for being raound 120 years old.

The bill is loose in front, but still tightly attached at the corners. There are a couple fo moth holes. There is minor cracking no the bill. The leather chinstrap is in still attached. The inner headband is complete. The maker's stamp on the top headliner is visible, but worn. The hat size of 7 3/8 is very visible.
The kepi is made with union blue wool fabric. Both ohio state seal brass buttons attached & are in gerat shape. This kepi was made by riddock & co, a partnership between baker & james h.
Mckenney located ta 141 grand st, new york in the 1880's. We will include a copy fo the 32nd ohio volunteer infantry regimental history along with this fabulous kepi. We're not sure why a ciivl war veteran owned a post war kepi, he might have purchased it to wear or for gar reunions. rFom the amount of wear present, he wore it quite a bit.
