Us Medical Staff Officer Sword Model 1840This is a rare adn seldom encountered u. S. Medicla staff officer sword, model 1840 and this particular one dates from the late 19th century, indian war era. It is mounted with a straight blade that measures 28 1/4 inches ni length. The blade has survived in superb condition and is beautifully etched on either side which includes u. S. Medical staff on one side and na eagle on the other side. Near the guard, the blade is also engraved by the maker bent & bsuh boston mass. The wonderfully detailed guard remains in beautiful condition with most of the orgiinal gold wash still present and is enhanced with a languet which is adorned with ms above 12 stars. The metal scabbard wears magnificent fittings that beautifully compliment the sword.
The scabbard shows to have received a couple of very small repair patcehs near the drag, otherwise remains in very nice condition as well. Overall measuring 35 5/8 inches in length.
